Welcome to Iasi
Welcome to Iasi
Varstnicul (Elder), Sora (Sister)
Took a stroll on P-Day to check out the sights. It's a beautiful place.
We were working in the sister's new apartment putting together some new furniture when we received a severe weather alert. It was only minutes later that the sky opened up and we viewed a show from the 3rd floor. The video shows the water being contained in the lowest part of the street and in many cases the lowest point in downtown Iasi. This water accumulated in less than 20 minutes. You can see from the vehicles the depth, it was at the top of the bus's tires. The concrete barrier along the top of the river is about 2-1/2 feet high and the bottom of it is a foot or so above the road. Some attempted to drive through it successfully and some not so much. It was quite the site and somewhat comical.
So, our first Sunday in the Iasi, the Branch Presidency was reorganized, and we will now have the opportunity to serve here in a new capacity. Pictured is District President Radu Stoica, Varstnicul Leavitt-1st councilor, Branch President Constantin Darie and Varstnicul Shayd Taylor-2nd councilor. We are excited to lift where we are planted.
Everyone has a gate, and they are all pretty amazing, along with the countryside and the view of the city.
You've got to love the parks. They are everywhere and are filled with benches which a usually full and beautiful landscaping. The evenings are the prime time to visit as they are referred to the "Golden Hours" where you find people occupying the grass and all of the benches. The photos were taken discretely as to not interrupt but take our word they are full most of the time. We have enjoyed walking around them in the evenings just to say hi. Some of the parks even have American ties.
Our first successful District Council in our apartment filled both the Spirit and the stomach. Sora's (sisters) Harris, Nigh, Otsuji and Griffith along with Varstnicul's (elders) Taylor, Clark, Lemon and Dickson. What amazing missionaries we get to serve with. They radiate the light of Jesus Christ in every sense of the word.
Amazing watermelon! It's like we used to get as kids, crisp, flavorful and full of seeds. They are also everywhere; roadside stands mostly but there a plenty to go around.
Iasi is an exciting place, and we look forward to serving here for at least a year. The people are kind and those that can love to practice their English.
