Week 20 Zone Conferences








This was a busy one.  Of course, Mondays always start our week off right with an enjoyable evening with the YSA.  They never cease to amaze us with their love and faith.  They are amazing in so many ways.

In each Zone Conference we had the privilege of awarding a few companionships for the cleanest apartments and celebrating birthdays.  It was very difficult given each was inspected via video call and recognized there was some creative videography going on.  In some cases, the winner was chosen from the cleanest "toaster tray", which some didn't even know they had.  Needless to say, we enjoyed the opportunity to speak with every companionship and share in a little fun.
Overall, the zone conferences were awesome.  President shared some tender personal experiences and council.  Sister Namgur gave a wonderful presentation about safety from the pollution and air quality concerns for all and to make sure they are wearing their N95 masks.  The Assistants, Zone Leaders and Sister Training Leaders offered critical training, each of which was very inspired.  It was truly a weeklong spiritual feast.







We love these senior couples we have the blessing to serve with.  The language barrier quickly subsides when handshakes or hugs are exchanged.  They are truly the salt of the earth.  Our lives will forever be changed from these associations.


We can't express enough, our gratitude and love for these two.  President and Sister Namgur have been wonderful to serve alongside.  They have given us confidence and encouragement every step of the way.



The countryside is beautiful and reminds us much of our Idaho home.  What we can't get used to though are the over loaded trucks.  I guess the distances between everything makes it more difficult and so you have to take as much as you can on every trip.  Is it any wonder why he may be changing a broken axle?




So, Sister Leavitt had the idea, maybe more inspiration, that she needed to make something for those Elders and Sisters who were not able to travel into the Christmas gathering in the city.  Therefore, each night after the days zone conference we hurried back to the apartment for a cooking frenzy for the next day.  The first few days weren't bad because there were only a few companionships.  However, Thursday evening found us making a few more for the entire Darkhan Zone.  It was worth every minute of our time to see the smiles on their faces sharing a little taste of home.

Inter-Mission

It is with heavy hearts we say good-bye to our beloved Mongolia and the many friends we have made in such a short time.  These memories will forever be with us as we depart to begin a new adventure.  Our untimely departure was based upon a couple of situations, namely the tax implications for senior couples with the requirement to register to pay worldwide taxes and the fact that Carrie injured her knee just prior to our time limit with the taxes.  We received an MRI which showed a torn meniscus which would require surgery.  Three doctors reviewed the results and all concurred that it looked like surgery was imminent.  So, with that news we returned home, at least to Utah, to have the expected surgery.  We were able to get an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon the week after returning.  At the initial appointment he took a look at the MRI, twisted the leg a bit and then told us that he didn't think it would require surgery and that we should be abl...

Welcome to Romania (week 1.5)

Welcome to Romania We met up with the Elders and Sisters coming from the MTC in Minneapolis and arrived in Bucharest Romania on the afternoon of July 9th.  We were greeted by President and Sister Fowler and office staff.  Happy to be on the ground again. In order to keep everyone, awake as long as possible, we took a stroll around the city and caught a few sights.  I couldn't resist, taking up the rear, and following a small but powerful army of God. We first went to the "Square" where the revolution took place in December of 1989.  Many lost their lives but ultimately democracy won out.  The cross is a monument to the miners who lost their lives that came to help in the cause. There is no shortage of old structures, especially churches that have remained for centuries.  They are gorgeous and many are still in use today. Week 28 More schools and solemn goodbyes

  Tsagaan Sar (White Moon) We met with four new schools in the countryside and again met some wonderful people.  The thing that continues to stand out to us is the fact that they are so appreciative of us being there, and for choosing their school. We said goodbye to Grace this week as she is returning home to the US before her next adventure in Australia.  She will be playing there for the next few months.  She has been a pleasure to get to know and we are grateful that our paths crossed.  We had an opportunity to visit one of the many monasteries in Ulaanbaatar.  This is supposedly one of the largest Budda's in the world.  It's pretty dated and very important to many of the faithful.
